This new Charter School started 5 years ago converting an existing rundown supermarket close to the center of Yonkers, NY into an Elementary School building. The school has been very successful which created the demand from the community to expand into a Middle School.
Working with a tight time constraint, PFA partnered with Kullman Industries (an off-site construction company in New Jersey) to run permitting, pre and site construction on parallel tracks. This approach cut the project time in half, compared to a standard design-bid-build track. Our firm also streamlined the typically intensive shop drawing coordination phase by using BIM software.
The school building and site layout was designed with great care to achieve an “as-of-right” project avoiding time-delaying variances. The new building features a full Middle School sized gym, a library/media center and special ed, art & science classrooms serving the entire school.
