Gates of Heaven Mausoleum

Over the years, Mausoleums have evolved to become places of contemplation and respite, places where families can visit to remember their loved ones. Partners for Architecture’s design for the Gates of Heaven Mausoleum in Trumbull, CT, encourages this spirit of quiet reflection with a high-ceilinged volume that surrounds a glazed interior courtyard, filled with delicate Japanese cut-leaf maples and flooded with natural light.

Rather than relying on heavily ecclesiastical religious imagery and traditional wood paneling, the building has a clean, modern approach. Finishes project both quality and restraint, including natural stone, expanses of glass, and dark bronze accents. Behind the scenes, carefully detailed and researched technologies enable the special construction that this building typology requires. Structurally, the building was designed with a concealed concrete structure that enables the ceiling to appear as if floating over the glass-walled courtyard.
