St. Mary’s Church Historic Preservation

For this century-old church, PFA used state-of-the-art 21st-century technologies, including extensive drone photography and point-cloud modelling with LiDAR imaging. The original natural stone and cast-stone façade and real slate roof of this church required sensitive repairs and renovations. In some cases, those repairs were needed to reverse earlier repairs that were carried out with inappropriate techniques and materials. In other cases, the handsome materials of the church had endured exceptionally well, but needed cleaning with specialized techniques to preserve the original stone and mortar without damage. Special details were developed by the PFA team for copper flashing and gutters, new cast stone replacement parts, and other highly-specialized materials and methods – all designed to help the church endure well for another hundred years.
